Candidate Pipeline
A pool of candidates at various stages of the hiring process, maintained proactively so that roles can be filled quickly when a vacancy arises.
A candidate pipeline (also called a talent pipeline) is an ongoing collection of qualified candidates that a company has identified, screened, or previously engaged with. Rather than starting every search from scratch, organisations with a healthy pipeline can draw on pre-vetted candidates and fill roles faster.
Building a pipeline requires proactive sourcing: attending events, engaging on LinkedIn, running employee referral programmes, and maintaining relationships with past applicants who were strong but not hired for a specific role. ATS platforms help recruiters tag and manage candidates so they can be re-engaged at the right time.
For remote-first companies, pipelines often span multiple countries and time zones. Segmenting candidates by role type, skill set, and availability — and maintaining warm, periodic communication — ensures the pipeline stays active and engaged rather than going cold.
