Digital Nomad

A person who uses technology to work remotely while travelling and living in different locations, often across multiple countries.

A digital nomad is someone who combines remote work with a location-independent lifestyle, frequently moving between cities or countries rather than settling in a fixed home base. The rise of high-speed internet, collaboration tools, and remote-friendly employers has made this lifestyle accessible to a growing number of professionals.

Countries around the world have begun issuing digital nomad visas specifically to attract location-independent workers — including Portugal, Croatia, Estonia, and Barbados. These visas typically allow stays of 6–12 months and are designed for people who earn income from sources outside the country.

For employers, managing digital nomads introduces compliance considerations around tax residency, social security obligations, and data security. Many companies have introduced clear policies about where employees may work and for how long, distinguishing between occasional travel and permanent location changes.
